The Book of Hebrews is a very important book in the Bible. Not only does it help us to understand the present ministry of Christ but it also explains
the significance of the Old Testament laws. Hebrews shows us that just as God led the Isrealites from Egypt through the wilderness, so Christ today is helping to lead and protect God's people.
Someone has said that Hebrews was written to "rekindle a dampened fire." There was much persecution of the Hebrew Christians during this time (Hebrews was written between
A.D. 65 and 70) and some of the Christians were beginning to fall back into their ways of Judaism because they had not put down roots in the soil of Christianity. Some of the Christians had grown lazy in their faith. The author of Hebrews saw that the main cause of a 11 this was a lack of the knowledge and understanding of what faith in Christ really meant. The author shows them clearly how wonderfully all the prophecies and types of the Old Testament have their fulfillment in Jesus Christ. He emphasizes that there have been two revelations of God to man; the first, through men (the prophets); and the second, through the Son (Jesus Christ).
The epistle is divided into two parts. The doctrinal half (chapters one through ten) and the practical half (chapters ten through thirteen). It is in this second half that we see that the great need of the church then as well as today is to know Jesus and His. saving power. It is this great "Treasure of God's Truth" that the Book of Hebrews will unearth for us as we study together.
The author of Hebrews is unknown, although many scholars attribute it to Paul, the Apostle.
The Book of Hebrews includes the great "Faith Chapter" where the Heroes of the Faith are listed. Surely, Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. May your faith be increased and encouraged through this study.
