The Gospel Of John

The four Gospels deal with the earthly life of the Savior but each one presents Him in an entirely different character. Matthew presents Him as The King; Mark as the servant; Luke as man; John shows us the Deity of Jesus Christ.

THE PURPOSE: To present Jesus as God. Specifically, to so present the details of the life of Christ that through faith in these things God might communicate eternal life to us. John 20:31 is the key verse to this Gospel,

"But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name."

THE AUTHOR: John, the disciple (not to be confused with John the Baptist), the son of Zebedee, a fisherman, and Salome, one of the women who followed Jesus until the crucifixion. John also wrote I, II, III John and the Book of Revelation.

THE DATE: AD 85-90

More great truths are assembled in this single section of Scripture than in any other part of the Bible. The deity of Christ, the love of God and the life eternal are clearly revealed in John. Also, some of the greatest verses in the Bible are presented in the simplicity and sincerity of a man, once a fisherman, who was the disciple closest to the Master.

John has been called the Gospel of Belief. As we study these wonderful words together may you find that you, too, are becoming closer to your Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ and that you are growing in the love and knowledge of Him who is the Word of God.
