[TEpistles]

This series of lessons called "The Prison Epistles" include four of Paul's letters written while he was a prisoner in Rome, plus the letter to the Christians in Galatia.

The first time Paul was a prisoner he wrote four letters, all about the same time Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon.

In Ephesians, the Apostle Paul wrote about how all believers in Christ are now one in Him.

To the Colossians he wrote about the greatness and sufficiency of Christ Himself, how in all things He must have the preeminence.

Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, thanked God for them and told them that he was praying for God to show them the right things to do. He also told them how the Gospel had gone forward in Rome as a result of his being imprisoned.

The story of the letter to Philemon is clear when we read the letter itself. Philemon had a slave called Onesimus who ran away after he did something wrong. He went to Rome and there he met Paul who led him to Christ. The letter to Philemon was written to ask Philemon to forgive Onesimus and to receive him in a kindly way as a brother in Christ.

The epistle to the Galatians was also written by Paul. Paul always taught that men of any nation would be saved by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ not their own works. But some Jewish Christians were telling the believers in Galatia that it was also necessary to keep the law of Moses. So, Paul wrote this letter to warn the Christians in Galatia, and to keep them from going astray.

May the Holy Spirit give you understanding as we study these letters. They tell us many things we need to know about salvation, God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. They also warn against listening to false teachers. If you study these epistles carefully you will not be deceived by false teachings.

You will need to bring along a Big Shovel as we shall be digging deeply into the spiritual treasures of God's Truth!
